A growing restaurant chain known for its chicken fingers is planning a Columbia location.

Guthrie’s Golden Fried Chicken Fingers, which was founded in Alabama and has spread across the Southeast, is planning a location along Hardscrabble Road. It will be part of a commercial development coming to 4600 Hardscrabble in northeast Columbia, according to listings from real estate firm NAI Columbia.

Meanwhile local firm Chapin Commercial Construction touted their ongoing work on the coming Columbia Guthrie’s in a Monday morning social media post.

“@guthrieschicken is expanding in South Carolina and we’re proud to be building what’s next,” Chapin Commercial Construction said on Instagram. “After completing their first [South Carolina] location, we’re already moving forward on the next: construction is underway at their new Hardscrabble Road restaurant in Columbia.”

Guthrie’s opened its first South Carolina location in April at 2404 Mineral Springs Road in Lexington. Guthrie’s was founded in Alabama in 1965, according to the company’s website. It currently has locations across the U.S., including spots in Alabama, Kentucky, Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi and elsewhere, per a store locator tool on its website.

The Guthrie’s menu specializes in chicken fingers. It is well-known for the “Gut Box,” which, according to the Guthrie’s website, comes with “golden fried chicken fingers, crispy fries, creamy cole slaw, buttery Texas toast, and Guthrie’s signature sauce.”

An opening date for the Hardscrabble Road Guthrie’s hasn’t been announced. A Valvoline oil change spot and an AcharaVet veterinarian office also have been announced for the site at 4600 Hardscrabble Road, per NAI Columbia materials, with more spaces available.

It’s a busy thoroughfare, as more than 25,000 cars per day travel down that stretch of Hardscrabble Road, per state traffic count data.
